Customer activity
Alizée Froment is a woman of many hats: international rider, equestrian artist and creator of equine shows. She showcases her knowledge and her relationship with her horses in videos and performances that tackle sometimes fantastic themes. A true expert in dressage, her performances are both epic and emotional.
The context and purpose of the project
For the Snow project, we worked in collaboration with director and cinematographer Anthony Bro Petit.
The project began in winter 2018 with a first version of the video featuring Alizée in a fantastic, snowy world. The aim of this creation was to highlight this fairytale and epic world while respecting the main element in the image, the horse.
Based on the first version of the video, we can begin to address sonic themes as well as find climactic elements that will require a richer arrangement or stronger intensity.
Musical universe requested by the customer
We quickly moved towards an orchestral and cinematic sound palette, which was validated by the client. As the world is fantastic and epic, instruments such as strings, brass and percussion were an obvious choice. The key was to match the intensity of the image. For calmer, more emotional passages, we opted for a more intimate arrangement, creating rising moments throughout the video to project us into more dynamic, instrumentation-rich galloping scenes.
The process
As mentioned in the previous paragraph, we start with a first version of the video, which can be changed according to the musical narration. In this case, the video editing could be adjusted to the music to reinforce transitions or narrative changes. This enabled us to refine the music with future versions.
Once Alizée has validated the sound theme, we can orchestrate it in different ways: piano, strings, brass...
Once the orchestral base has been built up, we can move on to adding more decorative elements such as percussion or transitional elements to help reinforce the grandiosity of the composition and complement the montage of images.
The final stage is the mixing and mastering of all the instrumental elements and sound effects, which is done in close collaboration with the director to ensure that the emotion is properly conveyed in the final cut of the video.
