Full Artistic Accompaniment: Collaboration with Lieke Wevers for Paris 2024
At Sounds of Motion, we believe that magic happens when music and movement come together to tell a story. This vision found a perfect incarnation in our collaboration with Olympic gymnast Lieke Wevers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. More than a musical composition, this project was transformed into a complete artistic adventure thanks to the addition of choreographic accompaniment in collaboration with Jacques Ferrari, renowned for his expertise in high-level sport and in creative, original stagings in the world of sport and entertainment.
A tailor-made project: the Lieke Wevers commission
From our very first discussions, Lieke shared with us a clear and inspiring artistic vision for her floor routine. Here are the guidelines she shared with us:
- A hybrid musical style: "A classical base with piano, violin and bass, enriched with modern and contemporary elements."
- Parisian ambience: "Music that pays tribute to the host country of the Games, evoking both elegance and modernity."
- Emotional connection: "Musical transitions capable of evoking a range of emotions, from cold and lonely to powerful and content."
- An interactive moment: "A rhythmic section to engage the audience and create an immediate bond with spectators and judges."
- Subtle, mysterious details: "Little sounds in the background to enrich the atmosphere and further captivate."
Comprehensive artistic support: "Le Duo Dynamique: Musique & Chorégraphie".
Lieke wanted a symbiosis between music and choreography, and that's where Jacques Ferrari came in. This choreographer, renowned for his original stagings and his experience in top-level sport, joined the project at Lieke's request, to accompany her in the choreographic creation of her routine, in order to enhance the musical composition with Lieke's technical and artistic qualities.
- Constant dialogue: We worked in close collaboration, adjusting music and movements so that the music resonated precisely with the choreography.
- Emotional progression: The routine mirrors the emotions evoked by Lieke: a distant, cold opening, a build-up, culminating in an affirmation of strength and contentment.
- A tribute to Paris: The choreography subtly integrates cultural references to Parisian style, reinforcing the musical tribute.
"It was a special project for me to create an original composition for my 3rd Olympic Games with Jacques & Henry. From the start, they were very professional and allowed me to get close to the creative process to know and feel exactly what I wanted. For the choreography, I was very grateful for the way Jacques helped me create a new dance and coached me to improve in contemporary. He had patience and a great way of teaching me new things outside my comfort zone. I'm very happy with the experience we had together and the work that culminated in a great Paris Olympics."
A story driven by music and movement
The result is much more than a simple gymnastics routine: it's a complete work of art, where music and choreography interact to captivate the audience. The progression of emotions is palpable at every moment, to thrill spectators in real time.
