Customer activity

Sadek is a Moroccan equestrian artist and horse trainer who studied at the Académie d'Art Equestre du Maroc before performing in various shows around the world.

An expert in free-roaming dressage, he was trained by Bartabas, with whom he has worked for nearly ten years.

Today, he offers private event services around an equestrian experience highlighting his influences and culture with horses.

The context and purpose of the project

A collaboration between Sadek and our filmmaker partner Anthony Bro Petit has led us to work on the music for a series of three videos over the period 2019 to 2021. The first is about a wild, fusional escape of Sadek and his horses in the Agafay desert. A second video in an atypical and cinematic location, the Portuguese cistern in El Jadida. Finally, a video set in the prestigious Selman Hotel in Marrakech.

The objectives of these videos were firstly to create a visual audio experience that would convey the equestrian art and culture, the place, in which it evolves, as well as the production of media content for the Selman and Sadek hotel and a communication format for the promotion of its equestrian shows.

Musical universe requested by the customer

The musical universe had to reflect the environment and culture of the place, while at the same time being modern, rhythmic and emotionally powerful.

For the Agafay video, Sadek and Anthony were looking for a blend of traditional sounds mixed with a string orchestra to bring a more cinematic and grandiose emotion and underline the quality of the place.

For El Jadida, we turned to a darker, more theatrical universe with more epic tones.

Finally, for the Hotel Selman, the aim was to create a luxurious ambience in an haute couture setting.

The process

First of all, it's always a good idea to see a first version of the video or "storyboard", so you know what emotions the music should revolve around, before you start creating.

The first part of the creative process was the search for sounds from this region of the Maghreb to underline the cultural aspect of this series.

The next step was to record these instruments on a simple harmonic and rhythmic basis, to give them as much expression as possible.

It was essential to incorporate a lot of acoustic elements and North African percussion played live for a more authentic feel rather than composing them on the computer.

Rhythmic and harmonic elements complete a melody that was either played on violin or flute.

Then we made a few adjustments to each piece of music to ensure that the tempo matched the video's editing, or added a few instrumental lines to reinforce specific emotions in the scene.

Finally, a mixing and mastering stage to ensure clear balance of each instrument and pleasant listening on different media.
